Abu Dhabi smart cleaning fleet cuts carbon emissions by 40% with AI-powered vehicles

## Introduction of Smart Fleet

Abu Dhabi has introduced a fleet of over 500 AI-powered vehicles to enhance public cleanliness services. This initiative, launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), aims to improve service efficiency and sustainability.

## Significant Environmental Impact

The smart fleet has achieved a 40% reduction in carbon emissions, cutting down from 13,401 tonnes in 2024 to 9,537 tonnes in 2025. This reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption of around 175,000 trees, supporting Abu Dhabi's climate action goals.

## Advanced Technology Integration

Equipped with IoT-enabled systems, the vehicles feature high-resolution cameras and AI sensors for waste detection and compliance monitoring. These technologies enhance operational planning and reduce fuel consumption, contributing to cleaner streets and public spaces.

## Resource Management and Circular Economy

The fleet's resource management system has processed 94% of waste outside landfills and fully recycled maintenance oils. This supports circular economy principles and improves resource efficiency.

## Future Expansion Plans

Following a successful pilot phase, the DMT plans to expand the use of AI and IoT technologies across the emirate, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's status as a leading smart city. The initiative aligns with global standards and community expectations for efficient government services.
