## Passenger Traffic Amid Challenges
Dubai International Airport (DXB) successfully managed 6 million passengers despite significant regional disruptions affecting airspace. From late February to April 30, the airport handled over 32,000 aircraft movements and 213,000 tonnes of cargo. This was achieved by continuously adjusting flight schedules and routes to adapt to available airspace.
## Impact on First Quarter Traffic
The disruptions had a noticeable impact on first-quarter traffic, with DXB welcoming 18.6 million passengers, marking a 20.6% decrease compared to the previous year. March saw a sharp decline, with passenger numbers dropping by 65.7% to 2.5 million. In contrast, 2025 saw a record 95.2 million passengers.
## Key Markets and Destinations
India remained the largest market for DXB, followed by Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Pakistan. London, Mumbai, and Jeddah were the busiest destination cities. Cargo volumes also saw a decline, dropping by 22.7% to 399,600 tonnes.
## Operational Resilience
Despite the challenges, DXB maintained strong baggage performance, processing 17.6 million bags with a mishandling rate significantly lower than the global average. The airport's operations relied on close coordination among airlines, ground handlers, and air traffic authorities, ensuring continued movement of passengers and cargo.
## Future Outlook
As airspace conditions stabilize, Dubai Airports anticipates a strong rebound in demand. Efforts are underway to increase flight movements, supported by ongoing coordination with airlines and regional authorities. Long-term expansion plans at Al Maktoum International Airport continue, reinforcing Dubai's position as a global aviation hub.
