## Early Beginnings
Shabbir Merchant arrived in Dubai in 1976 at the age of 17, joining his brother who had already settled there. Over the years, he established deep roots in the UAE, building a successful business and raising a family.
## Building a Business
Initially working with his brother, Shabbir launched his own company, Champion, in 1989. The business began with neon signs but evolved with technological advancements to include LED, digital solutions, and events. Today, the company operates four divisions focusing on signage, digital technologies, events, and marketing.
## Family Legacy
Shabbir's sons, Shoaib and Shazil, have joined the family business, bringing new ideas and technologies. Shoaib returned from Canada in 2013, while Shazil introduced Champion Digital, which includes interactive technologies and humanoid robots.
## Commitment to Dubai
Throughout economic challenges and global uncertainties, Shabbir has remained committed to Dubai, crediting the UAE government for its support of the business community. As chairman of the Pakistan Business Council in Dubai, he has witnessed this support firsthand.
## A Home in the UAE
For Shabbir and his family, the UAE is home. All three of his children were born and raised there, and they continue to live and work in the region, carrying forward the legacy of commitment and innovation.
