## Record-Breaking Aircraft Order
AirAsia has made a significant move by ordering 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking the largest single order for this model. This agreement pushes the A220 program past 1,000 firm orders, highlighting its growing popularity.
## New Cabin Configuration
The airline will be the first to feature the A220's new 160-seat cabin layout, which includes an additional overwing exit on each side, allowing for more seating capacity.
## Strategic Expansion Plans
This fleet expansion is set to enhance AirAsia's existing operations, supporting their growth strategy across ASEAN and Central Asia. The A220's range and efficiency will enable the airline to explore new routes and markets, aligning with their goal of becoming a leading low-cost carrier.
## Longstanding Partnership
AirAsia's CEO, Tony Fernandes, emphasized the importance of their long-term partnership with Airbus, which has been instrumental in the airline's success. The new aircraft will provide a cost-effective platform for expanding their network.
## Environmental Considerations
The A220 is capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel, with Airbus aiming for 100% SAF capability by 2030. This aligns with AirAsia's commitment to more sustainable operations.
