Thailand raises airport fees: What international travellers need to know

## New Departure Fees at Six Airports

Starting June 20, Thailand will raise its international passenger service charge by over 50% at six major airports. This change affects outbound international travelers using airports operated by Airports of Thailand (AOT).

## Affected Airports

The airports where the new fees will apply include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Hat Yai. The departure fee will increase from 730 baht to 1,120 baht.

## Purpose of Fee Increase

The additional revenue from these fees will be allocated to upgrading airport infrastructure. Planned improvements include expanded passenger terminals, automated check-in systems, and enhanced safety technology.

## Impact on Tourism

Despite the fee hike, AOT President Paweena Jariyathitipong believes it will not significantly impact travel demand. Thailand remains a popular destination, with its charges still lower than some regional airports like Singapore.
