## UAE Visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin a significant international tour this week, starting with the United Arab Emirates. The visit aims to enhance trade and energy cooperation, especially in light of recent global supply challenges. Modi will meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss these issues.
## European Engagements
Following the UAE, Modi will visit the Netherlands from May 15 to 17. This marks his second visit to the country since 2017, focusing on defense, semiconductor collaboration, and water management partnerships. The Netherlands is a key European investor in India, with bilateral trade reaching $27.8 billion last year.
Modi's itinerary includes a stop in Sweden on May 17, where he will engage with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and participate in the European Round Table for Industry alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
## Nordic and Italian Visits
On May 18, Modi will attend the India-Nordic Summit in Norway, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the country in over four decades. The tour concludes in Italy on May 19-20, where discussions will focus on implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, aiming to boost trade and cooperation in defense, security, and clean energy.
## Economic Context
The tour comes at a time when India's economy faces pressure from the ongoing Middle East conflict, prompting Modi to urge citizens to reduce fuel consumption. This international engagement seeks to strengthen India's global partnerships amid these challenges.
