## Modi's International Agenda

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant international tour this week, visiting the United Arab Emirates and four European nations. The tour aims to enhance trade and energy cooperation amid global uncertainties.

## UAE Visit

Modi's first stop will be the UAE, home to a large Indian community. Discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will focus on energy collaboration, crucial due to ongoing disruptions in global supply chains.

## European Engagements

Following the UAE, Modi will visit the Netherlands from May 15 to 17. This visit will focus on defense, semiconductor industries, and a strategic water partnership. The Netherlands is a key European investor in India, with bilateral trade reaching $27.8 billion last year.

In Sweden, Modi will meet with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and participate in the European Round Table for Industry alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

## Nordic and Italian Visits

Modi's visit to Norway on May 18 marks the first by an Indian prime minister in over four decades. He will attend the third India-Nordic Summit, aiming to strengthen ties with Nordic countries.

The tour concludes in Italy on May 19-20, where discussions will focus on implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, targeting trade, defense, and clean energy cooperation.

## Economic Context

This tour comes as India faces economic pressures due to the Middle East conflict, with Modi urging citizens to reduce fuel consumption amid supply challenges.
