Saudi Arabia deploys Middle East’s first heavy traffic road simulator

## Innovative Traffic Simulation

Saudi Arabia has launched the Middle East's first heavy traffic road simulator to enhance the durability of roads used during the Hajj pilgrimage. This advanced system is designed to replicate over two decades of traffic pressure in a condensed timeframe, allowing for thorough testing of road materials.

## Testing Capabilities

The simulator can perform 26,000 load cycles in just 24 hours, providing engineers with the ability to simulate intense traffic conditions quickly. It also recreates temperatures from 15°C to 60°C, enabling the evaluation of asphalt performance under various environmental conditions.

## Benefits and Impact

This technology is expected to improve the cost efficiency and lifespan of road networks by ensuring materials meet technical standards before large-scale implementation. The simulator will be particularly useful for testing new asphalt mixtures on Hajj routes, ensuring they can withstand the heavy traffic demands of the pilgrimage season.
