## Drone Interceptions
The UAE Ministry of Defence reported that its air defence systems intercepted six drones over the past 48 hours. These drones attempted to target civilian and critical areas within the country. The interceptions were carried out with high efficiency, ensuring no casualties or damage to vital infrastructure.
## Origin of the Drones
Investigations have traced the origin of these drones to Iraq. This follows a recent incident on May 17, 2026, where three drones targeted the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. Two of these were intercepted, while one hit an electricity generator outside the plant's main perimeter.
## UAE's Response
The Ministry of Defence emphasized the UAE's right to protect its sovereignty and national security, in line with international laws. The Armed Forces remain fully prepared to address any threats to the nation's security.
## International Reactions
The UAE has urged the UN Security Council to condemn these attacks, highlighting that targeting nuclear facilities for peaceful purposes violates international law. The incident has drawn attention to Iran-backed militias in Iraq, which are part of a broader network influencing regional dynamics.
