## Evacuation Orders Issued

In Southern California, more than 17,000 residents have been instructed to evacuate due to a wildfire threatening homes in suburban areas. The evacuation orders and warnings are primarily affecting neighborhoods in Simi Valley, a city with a population exceeding 125,000.

## Sandy Fire Details

The Sandy Fire, which began on Monday, is located in the hills above Simi Valley, approximately 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles. By Tuesday morning, the fire had spread across more than 2 square miles of dry brush and resulted in the destruction of at least one home.

## Firefighting Efforts

According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the fire was initially propelled by wind gusts over 30 mph. However, firefighters have made significant progress as the winds calmed overnight. Department spokesperson Andrew Dowd expressed optimism about further containment efforts before the winds potentially increase again.
