YouTube gives UAE parents new controls over children’s viewing

## New Parental Controls

YouTube has rolled out supervised accounts for children in the UAE and the broader Middle East and North Africa region. This new feature allows parents to have greater control over their children's viewing habits on the main YouTube app.

## Customizable Content Settings

Parents can choose from three content settings: Explore, Explore More, and Most of YouTube. These settings range from educational videos to a broader selection of content, excluding videos rated 18+.

## Managing Shorts and Viewing Habits

The platform introduces a Shorts feed timer, enabling parents to set daily limits or completely disable Shorts scrolling. This feature aims to help manage screen time, especially during critical periods like exams.

## Built-in Safeguards

Supervised accounts come with default protections for users under 18, such as reminders for breaks and bedtime. Certain features, like content creation and comments, are disabled, and personalized ad targeting is not allowed.

## Availability and Setup

Parents can set up these accounts via YouTube's Family Center or Google Family Link. The feature is gradually being introduced across MENA and Turkiye, with availability in countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Egypt.
