UK arrests eight in global drug-and-rape network probe

## International Network Uncovered

The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has arrested eight individuals as part of an investigation into a global network involved in drug-facilitated sexual assaults. This network, primarily composed of men, is accused of drugging and sexually abusing women they know.

## Global Collaboration

The investigation revealed a vast international network with connections in numerous countries across all continents. This discovery followed a 2025 investigation by German journalists into an online forum used to facilitate such crimes.

## Ongoing Investigations

Currently, there are 14 separate investigations underway in the UK and other countries. Recently, law enforcement officials from Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States, and Europol convened in London to exchange information.

## Digital Platforms and Crime

NCA deputy director Nigel Leary highlighted the role of digital platforms in enabling these crimes, which are often under-reported due to victims being sedated and unable to recall the abuse. The agency has identified over 270 individuals linked to the forum and its offshoots.

## Serious and Evolving Threat

Helen Millichap, director of the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls, emphasized the evolving nature of these crimes, rooted in domestic abuse and facilitated by online connectivity. In Stockport, Manchester, a trial is set for September involving a husband and 12 other men accused of similar offences.
