Two giant sunspots spotted from UAE skies during heightened solar activity

## Sunspots Observed

Two enormous sunspots, identified as 4478 and 4479, were recently visible from the UAE. These sunspots are each about ten times the size of Earth and were captured by astrophotographer Tamim Al Tamimi.

## Solar Activity

The sunspots appeared during a period of increased solar activity, producing strong solar flares that affected the Earth's upper atmosphere. Such activity is part of the sun's natural cycle, which peaks approximately every 11 years.

## Safety Precautions

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, from the Emirates Astronomy Society, cautioned against direct observation of the sun without proper equipment, as it can cause severe eye damage. He recommends using solar filters or indirect methods like projecting the sun's image onto a surface.

## Understanding Sunspots

Sunspots are cooler, darker areas on the sun's surface caused by magnetic field disturbances. They typically appear in pairs and can last from a few days to several months, depending on their size and complexity. The sun's rotation causes these spots to move across its surface, taking about two weeks to traverse the visible side.
