How Dubai Customs, Emirates SkyCargo’s logistics system kept food, medicines flowing during war

## Enhanced Logistics System

Dubai Customs and Emirates SkyCargo have developed a robust logistics system to ensure the continuous flow of essential goods like food and medicines into the UAE and the Gulf region. This initiative comes in response to ongoing geopolitical challenges affecting global supply chains.

## Increased Cargo Volumes

The new system, operational at Dubai International Airport Cargo Village and Maktoum International Airport Air Cargo Centre, has significantly increased cargo handling capacity. From January to May 2026, imported goods surged by over 82%, rising from 26.6 million kilograms to 48.3 million kilograms.

## Regional Support

Beyond serving the UAE, the logistics operation also supports the wider GCC. In May alone, 529 truck movements facilitated the transport of 2,636 tonnes of essential cargo across the Gulf, including meat and pharmaceuticals.

## Efficient Processing

To expedite customs clearance, Dubai Customs implemented initiatives like the Green Corridor and Shahin, prioritizing critical shipments. Additional inspection windows and increased cargo-handling capacity have helped reduce congestion during peak periods.

## Strategic Collaboration

The collaboration between Dubai Customs, Emirates SkyCargo, and other government agencies underscores Dubai's role as a global trading hub. This partnership ensures the uninterrupted delivery of vital goods, reinforcing the city's strategic importance in international logistics.
