## UAE's Commitment to Counter-Terrorism
During the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week, held from June 29 to July 2, 2026, the UAE emphasized its dedication to combating extremism and terrorism. The event, themed "A Future Free from Terrorism," focused on global cooperation against these threats.
Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, the UAE's Head of Cybersecurity, and Maqsoud Kruse, the Envoy for Countering Extremism and Terrorism, led the UAE delegation. They highlighted the importance of international partnerships and responsible innovation in using AI to enhance global security.
## Addressing Emerging Threats
The UAE participated in discussions on countering the misuse of AI and emerging technologies. They stressed the need for strong foundations, trusted partnerships, and responsible innovation to protect communities from evolving threats.
The UAE also co-hosted two high-level side events. One focused on AI and the future of counter-terrorism, while the other addressed the threat of terrorist use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). These events aimed to identify practical steps to tackle these challenges.
## Practical Implementation and Cooperation
Dr. Al Kuwaiti emphasized that technologies like AI, cyberspace, and UAS are reshaping counter-terrorism efforts. He called for secure systems, legal frameworks, trained personnel, and enhanced information-sharing to combat the misuse of these technologies.
Maqsoud Kruse highlighted the need for international responses to terrorist threats, stressing the importance of addressing extremism and promoting tolerance and coexistence.
Concluding their participation, the UAE reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to advance solutions that contribute to global peace and security.
