The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security in the UAE has issued a reminder for citizens planning to travel abroad during the holiday season. They are advised to ensure their passports are valid for at least six months prior to departure. This requirement is crucial as many countries mandate it to prevent passports from expiring during a visit.

## UAE Passport Privileges

The UAE passport offers significant travel advantages, allowing entry into 179 countries. Of these, 134 countries do not require a prior visa, while 45 offer electronic visas or visas on arrival.

## Passport Renewal Guidelines

For those needing to renew their passports, the authority specifies that applicants must provide a recent photograph that differs from the current passport photo and complies with International Civil Aviation Organisation standards. Passports are issued for ten years for citizens aged 21 and older, and for five years for those under 21. Renewals can only be initiated when the passport has a year or less of validity remaining.

## Application Process

Citizens within the UAE can apply for renewal through local services, while those abroad must use the passport renewal service for citizens outside the country.
