US eases export controls on UAE, grants access to advanced technologies

## UAE Gains Trusted Status for US Exports

The United States has relaxed export controls on the United Arab Emirates, granting it access to advanced technologies, including military equipment and AI chips. This move elevates the UAE to a trusted A:5 partner, making it the first Arab nation to receive this designation.

## Strategic Partnership Strengthened

The reclassification by the US Commerce Department allows the UAE to receive certain items without individual export licenses, provided they meet specific conditions. This includes military products, commercial spacecraft, and dual-use technologies for sectors like oil and gas, desalination, and nuclear power.

## Support for UAE's Development

The decision removes the UAE from restricted groups D:3 and D:4, eliminating limits on its unmanned aerial vehicle programs. It aims to support the UAE's commercial and defense needs while advancing US interests in the Middle East.

## Enhanced Cooperation in AI

Under the US-UAE Artificial Intelligence Cooperation framework, the UAE can access advanced computing products without individual licenses. This framework, signed in May 2025, includes commitments to invest in AI infrastructure expansion in the US.

## UAE's Commitment to Compliance

UAE Minister of State Saeed Al Hajeri highlighted the international confidence in the UAE's export control framework. He noted that the new status strengthens the UAE's role as a trusted partner in strategic technologies, including AI, semiconductors, and space systems.

## Vision for Future Collaboration

The UAE's new status is seen as a milestone in its strategic partnership with the US, opening opportunities for collaboration in research, investment, and technology development. This achievement reflects the vision of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing trust and responsible innovation in global partnerships.
