UAE's 'Community Readiness' programme to train one million responders for emergencies and disasters

## New Initiative for Emergency Preparedness

The UAE has introduced the "Community Readiness" programme, aiming to train one million individuals to respond effectively during emergencies and disasters. This initiative, part of the Integrated National Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Programme (Jaheziya), seeks to equip residents with the skills needed to act swiftly before professional help arrives.

## Comprehensive Training Framework

The programme is structured around an integrated national framework, involving partnerships with various sectors including government, healthcare, and community organizations. It also collaborates with international institutions from countries like the US, UK, and Australia to ensure high training standards.

## Four Levels of Training

Training is divided into four levels. The first level, Basic Readiness, covers essential skills such as first aid, CPR, and fire safety. The second level, Advanced Community Responder, focuses on managing incidents and multiple casualties. The third level trains community leaders in emergency planning and resource management. The final level prepares national trainers in teaching and quality assurance.

## Enhancing Community Capabilities

Dr. Adel Abdullah Al Shammari Al Ajmi, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, emphasized that "Community Readiness" aims to foster a culture of prevention and rapid response. The programme's innovative approach is expected to serve as a model for regional and international communities, ensuring that trainees are well-prepared without overstepping professional boundaries.
