Kuwait has announced a four-day mourning period following the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar. During this time, flags will be flown at half-mast across the nation and at Kuwaiti embassies worldwide.

## Legacy of Sheikh Hamad

Sheikh Hamad, who passed away at 74, was a pivotal figure in Qatar's development. He ruled from 1995 to 2013, overseeing the country's transformation into a global hub for energy, investment, and diplomacy. His leadership also saw the expansion of Qatar Airways and the successful bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

## Transition of Power

In 2013, Sheikh Hamad transferred power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who has been the Emir of Qatar since then. The cause of Sheikh Hamad's death has not been disclosed.
