UAE: 6 traffic rules to follow when driving in the left lane in Dubai

## Delivery Riders Restrictions

Since 2025, delivery riders in Dubai are not allowed to use the two leftmost lanes on roads with five or more lanes, and the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. This rule aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and is enforced by the Roads and Transport Authority in collaboration with local police and other partners. Violations can result in fines ranging from Dh500 to Dh700, with permit suspension for repeated offences.

## Overtaking Etiquette

The left lane is designated for overtaking and emergency vehicles. Drivers must yield to faster vehicles approaching from behind, even if they are within the speed limit. Failing to do so can result in a Dh400 fine and four black points on the driver's license.

## Slow Driving Hazards

Driving too slowly in the left lane is considered as dangerous as speeding. Motorists can be fined Dh400 for not maintaining the minimum speed or failing to yield to faster vehicles. Slow driving in the fast lane can lead to accidents as it forces others to overtake from the right.

## Tailgating Penalties

Tailgating is a traffic offence in Dubai, punishable by a Dh400 fine. Drivers are advised to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front to prevent accidents.

## Emergency Vehicle Priority

Emergency vehicles such as ambulances and police cars have priority in the left lane. Drivers must move to the right to allow them to pass immediately. The left lane should remain clear for overtaking and emergency use.
