Abu Dhabi experienced a notable increase in business activity during the first quarter of 2026. Economic licences rose by 21% compared to the previous year, while freelance permits saw a remarkable 261% jump. This growth reflects the emirate's appeal to entrepreneurs and independent professionals.

The rise in licences spanned various sectors, with vocational licences increasing by 193% and commercial licences by 20%. Additionally, permits related to agriculture, fisheries, and livestock grew by 5%. Creative activities also saw a boost, with Mobdea licences up by 15%.
## Regional Growth Highlights
Al Ain led the way with a 58% increase in new economic licences, followed by Al Dhafra at 28% and Abu Dhabi City at 18%. This regional growth underscores the emirate's robust economic environment.
## Industrial and AI Sector Developments
The industrial sector continued to expand, with 34 new facilities beginning production, contributing to local manufacturing capacity. The number of AI and advanced technology companies grew by 22.5%, highlighting Abu Dhabi's focus on building a knowledge-based economy.
