Young Emirati mountaineer Fatima Al Awadhi sets sights on next major climb

## Young Climber's Ambitious Goals

Eighteen-year-old Fatima Al Awadhi from the UAE is preparing to climb Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan. This expedition is part of her quest to complete the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. Already, she has conquered Mount Vinson in Antarctica, Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, and Mount Elbrus in Russia.

## Overcoming Personal Challenges

Fatima's passion for mountaineering began during a challenging time in her life. While in high school, her father fell into a coma, prompting her to seek solace in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award program. A trek in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley ignited her love for climbing.

## Next Steps and Future Plans

Her upcoming climb of Lenin Peak, standing at 7,134 meters, will be her highest yet. Supported by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Fatima views this as an opportunity to represent her country and inspire others. She aims to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam, which includes the Seven Summits and skiing to both the North and South Poles.

## Balancing Academics and Adventure

In addition to her climbing pursuits, Fatima is a full-time Economics student. She manages her academic responsibilities alongside rigorous training and preparation for her expeditions. Looking ahead, she plans to attempt climbing Mount Everest and Lhotse within 24 hours, a challenge that could set a new regional record.
