Young Emirati mountaineer Fatima Al Awadhi sets sights on next major climb

## Fatima Al Awadhi's Mountaineering Journey

Eighteen-year-old Fatima Al Awadhi from the UAE is preparing for a significant climb as she plans to tackle Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan. Known for her achievements as the youngest Arab to summit Mount Vinson in Antarctica and Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, Fatima is on a mission to complete the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent.

## Aiming for the Explorer's Grand Slam

Fatima's aspirations extend beyond the Seven Summits. She aims to achieve the Explorer's Grand Slam, which includes reaching both the North and South Poles in addition to the Seven Summits. Her passion for mountaineering began during a challenging period in her life when her father was in a coma. Joining the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award programme, she discovered her love for mountains during a trek in Nepal.

## Upcoming Challenge: Lenin Peak

Her next challenge is Lenin Peak, standing at 7,134 meters, the highest she has attempted so far. The expedition is supported by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom Fatima regards as a role model. She hopes her journey inspires others to pursue ambitious goals and overcome life's challenges.

## Balancing Academics and Adventure

Alongside her mountaineering pursuits, Fatima is a full-time Economics student. She manages her academic responsibilities while undergoing rigorous training and preparation for her climbs. Having already completed four of the Seven Summits, she plans to attempt Mount Everest and Lhotse within 24 hours, aiming to set a new regional record.
