Botswana’s diamonds get a direct route to Dubai under new trade corridor

## New Trade Corridor

A new trade corridor has been established between Botswana and Dubai, enhancing the global reach of Botswana's diamonds, copper, and agricultural products. This initiative is a collaboration between the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and the Botswana Stock Exchange Group.

## First Multi-Commodity Corridor

This agreement marks the creation of Africa's first multi-commodity sister-hub corridor. It aims to link Botswana's commodities exchange with Dubai's extensive trade and finance networks, providing a direct route for Botswana's resources to reach international markets.

## Diamond Tenders

One of the initial projects under this partnership involves diamond tenders connecting the Okavango Diamond Company with the Dubai Diamond Exchange. These tenders are expected to commence in late 2026, facilitating a direct commercial pathway for Botswana's diamond industry.

## Broader Economic Impact

The corridor is designed to enhance access to trade finance, logistics, and digital infrastructure, while also promoting professional training and knowledge exchange. It will connect Botswana's producers with global buyers and investors, including those in Islamic finance markets.

## Future Developments

Plans include the development of a commodities vault in Gaborone, which will adhere to the DMCC Global Good Delivery Standard. This facility aims to support cross-border trade and transparency in emerging markets. The agreement was formalized in Singapore during the World Diamond Congress.
