Music industry launches AI-generated content labels

## New Labeling System for AI-Generated Music

The music industry has introduced a new labeling system to identify content created with generative artificial intelligence. This initiative, announced by major organizations including the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), aims for widespread adoption across streaming platforms.

## Two Types of Labels

The system features two distinct labels. The first label indicates music that is primarily generated by AI, where artificial intelligence creates the main elements of the recording. This includes tracks entirely produced from AI prompts or featuring AI-generated lead vocals and key instrumental parts.

The second label applies to "AI-assisted" music, which is largely created by humans but includes some AI-generated expressive elements. In these cases, human performers must handle lead vocals and primary instrumental tracks.

## Industry Support and Implementation

The labeling system is designed for global use, with streaming services like Deezer already flagging AI-generated tracks. Deezer's "AI music detector" claims a 99.8% accuracy rate. Meanwhile, Apple Music has noted that over a third of new uploads are fully AI-created.

The Digital Media Association, representing platforms like Apple Music, Amazon, and Spotify, supports the initiative, emphasizing the importance of accurate AI metadata for transparency. Spotify has also launched a "Verified by Spotify" label to ensure artist authenticity and is working on AI disclosure measures.
