## New Renewal Policy
UAE citizens can now renew their Emirates ID cards up to one year before they expire. This change, effective from July 14, 2026, extends the previous renewal window from six months to 12 months, as announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.
## Combined Renewal Option
The new policy allows citizens to renew both their passports and Emirates IDs in a single transaction if their expiry dates coincide. This initiative aims to streamline the process, saving time and effort for UAE nationals.
## Strategic Objectives
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, emphasized that this extension aligns with the UAE's goal of providing proactive government services. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance digital solutions, improve customer satisfaction, and support the UAE's Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme.
## Global Leadership
The UAE is recognized globally for its efficient identity card system. The new renewal policy is expected to further strengthen the country's position by simplifying processes and integrating services across government and private sectors.
