## Historic Sale of Pelé's Jersey
A jersey worn by Pelé during the 1958 FIFA World Cup final has been sold for a record $4.9 million at an auction in New York. This sale makes it the second-most expensive football jersey ever auctioned, following Diego Maradona's 1986 World Cup jersey.
## Bidding War for a Piece of History
The jersey, worn by Pelé when he was just 17, attracted more than 10 bids from over five interested buyers. This sale marks a significant increase from its previous auction price of $105,600 in 2004.
## Pelé's Legacy
Pelé's performance in the 1958 final, where he scored twice against Sweden, helped Brazil secure their first World Cup title. This achievement cemented his status as one of football's greatest players.
## Other Notable Sales
The auction also featured other significant football memorabilia. Maradona's captain's armband from the 1986 World Cup sold for $512,000, while Lionel Messi's Barcelona jersey from a memorable 2017 Champions League match fetched $217,600. Additionally, David Beckham's England jersey from the 2002 World Cup sold for $51,200.
