Modi flags off India’s fastest metro, completes Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor

## Inauguration of High-Speed Transit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's fastest metro service and completed the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor on Sunday. This marks a significant advancement in the country's high-speed rail and urban transport systems.

## Delhi–Meerut Corridor

The 82-km corridor, now fully operational, is India's first Regional Rapid Transit System. It aims to significantly cut travel time between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh, offering a faster alternative to road travel.

## Infrastructure and Features

The corridor includes shared infrastructure that allows seamless transitions between the Namo Bharat trains and the Meerut Metro. The trains are equipped with modern amenities like air conditioning, CCTV, and charging ports.

## Impact on Commuting

The project is expected to ease road congestion and reduce emissions by promoting public transport use. It connects key urban centers, including Ghaziabad and Modinagar, and reduces the Delhi–Meerut travel time to under an hour.

## Meerut Metro

Alongside the corridor, Modi also launched the Meerut Metro, a 23-km intra-city system. It operates on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains, making it the fastest metro in India with speeds up to 120 kmph.
