## Arrest and Charges

An Indian co-owner of a Lanka Premier League (LPL) team has been detained by a Sri Lankan court on charges of attempting to fix matches. Manjot Kalra was arrested in Colombo after allegedly trying to bribe five players, including an attempt to pay one player 9.5 million rupees.

## Investigation Details

The arrest occurred at a hotel in the capital, and authorities have stated that Kalra was "about to pay" the bribe when apprehended. An accomplice of Kalra is also being held as investigations continue.

## League's Response

Despite the scandal, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the domestic T20 tournament would proceed as planned. The opening match of the sixth edition took place between the Jaffna and Galle teams, with Kalra being a co-owner of the Jaffna team.

## Previous Incidents

This is not the first time the LPL has faced corruption issues. Earlier this year, Tamim Rahman, another team owner, was convicted of similar charges and received a four-year jail sentence. The case highlights ongoing concerns about integrity in the league.
