I tried Dubai's new Dh5 driverless taxi: Here's everything you need to know

## Introduction to Dubai's Autonomous Taxis Dubai has launched a new driverless taxi service, Apollo Go, available in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. The service offers rides at a promotional fare of Dh5, a shift from the initial free trial phase.

## Booking and Boarding To book a ride, users must use the Apollo Go app. However, the service is not door-to-door; pickups and drop-offs are limited to specific bus stations. Once booked, the taxi waits for about a minute before canceling if the passenger hasn't boarded. Boarding requires entering the last four digits of your phone number on the car's panel.

## Inside the Taxi The vehicle accommodates up to three passengers. Payment is processed post-ride via card details entered in the app. Inside, passengers must fasten their seatbelts before the car moves. The taxi features include heated seats, a massage function, wireless charging, USB ports, and a small trunk for luggage.

## Driving Experience The autonomous taxi navigates traffic lights smoothly and handles unexpected situations, like swerving motorbikes, with ease. The car's braking and acceleration are designed to feel natural.

## Arrival and Future Plans Upon reaching the destination, a camera feed helps passengers check for oncoming traffic before exiting. The service is part of a broader initiative to expand the fleet from 50 to over 1,000 vehicles, aiming for 25% of Dubai's journeys to be autonomous by 2030.
