Sharjah court jails man in Dh692,000 fake IPhone sale fraud

## Court Verdict

A Sharjah court has sentenced a man to six months in prison for defrauding an Arab buyer of Dh692,000. The scam involved a fake transaction for 160 iPhone 17 Pro Max devices. The court found the defendant guilty of fraud under UAE law and ordered him to pay court fees. The victim's compensation claim has been referred to a civil court.

## Fraudulent Scheme

The defendant falsely claimed to own a mobile phone trading business and promised to supply the iPhones. Investigations revealed that he did not own such a business and had no stock of the phones. The buyer, believing the transaction was legitimate, handed over the cash in February 2024.

## Deceptive Tactics

After receiving the money, the defendant left the meeting location, promising to return with the phones but never did. He later misled the buyer with false messages about the delivery location, giving himself time to escape with the money.

## Legal Proceedings

A witness confirmed the cash handover, supporting the buyer's account. Despite the defendant's denial of the charges, the court ruled the case as deliberate fraud. The victim's lawyer argued that the defendant's actions were a planned scheme rather than a business dispute, seeking Dh52,000 in temporary compensation for financial losses.
