Aster Hospital brings next-generation heart imaging to region

## Pioneering Heart Imaging Technology

Aster Hospital Mankhool in Dubai has become the first in the Gulf region to implement a cutting-edge heart imaging system. This new technology, known as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), offers highly detailed, real-time images from inside the arteries, enhancing the precision of complex heart procedures.

## Enhanced Diagnostic Capabilities

The OCT platform, developed by Vivolight, provides cardiologists with clearer images compared to traditional X-ray angiography. It uses near-infrared light to produce high-resolution cross-sectional images of artery walls, allowing for a more accurate diagnosis of blockages and other arterial conditions.

## Successful Patient Treatment

The hospital recently treated a 52-year-old patient with severe heart artery narrowing using this technology. The procedure involved a drug-eluting stent and a drug-coated balloon, successfully restoring normal blood flow. The patient was discharged the day after the procedure and has remained symptom-free.

## Commitment to Advanced Cardiac Care

Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, CEO of Aster Hospitals & Clinics, emphasized the hospital's dedication to integrating proven medical innovations. The OCT system allows for rapid, detailed artery scans, improving the management of complex heart conditions and supporting better patient outcomes.

## Broader Implications for Heart Disease Treatment

The introduction of this technology is a significant step in enhancing cardiovascular care in the UAE. Studies suggest that OCT-guided procedures can improve treatment accuracy and reduce complications, potentially lowering the risk of cardiac deaths compared to traditional methods.
