## Historic Economic Agreement
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada have successfully concluded negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), marking a significant milestone in their bilateral economic relations. This agreement, finalized in record time, underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance trade and investment ties.
## Boost to Bilateral Trade
In 2025, bilateral trade between the UAE and Canada reached approximately $4.2 billion, reflecting a 21% increase from the previous year. The CEPA aims to further boost this trade by reducing tariffs and removing bureaucratic barriers, thereby expanding market access for businesses in both countries.
## Key Sectors for Collaboration
The agreement is expected to foster collaboration in crucial sectors such as aerospace, agri-food, and seafood. It is projected to facilitate significant trade flows into major projects, including ports, mines, LNG facilities, and data centers.
## Strategic Partnership
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, emphasized the strategic nature of the partnership, highlighting the potential for long-term economic growth and sustainability. The CEPA complements the existing Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) between the two nations, which has already facilitated substantial investments and job creation.
## Future Prospects
Maninder Sidhu, Canadian Minister of International Trade, noted that this agreement is the fastest negotiation ever completed by Canada. It is expected to unlock new opportunities for Canadian businesses to utilize the UAE as a regional hub, while also encouraging UAE investments in Canadian projects. The UAE's CEPA program, a key component of its foreign trade strategy, aims to double the size of its economy by 2031, having already achieved significant milestones in global trade.
