## Early Completion of Dredging
DP World has successfully finished the dredging phase at Senegal's Ndayane Port 13 months earlier than planned. This advancement allows for the early start of quay and marine infrastructure construction, moving the project closer to its 2028 completion target.
## Project Details
The $1.2 billion project aims to establish Senegal's primary deep-water container port, enhancing the nation's trade capacity and logistics standing in West Africa. The dredging involved creating a five-kilometer navigation channel, a turning basin, and a berth pocket to accommodate the largest container ships.
## Environmental and Employment Impact
The dredging was completed without blasting, minimizing environmental impact. Over 1,000 people are currently employed on-site, with the project expected to support 2.3 million jobs through increased trade and improve access to essential goods for millions.
## Future Prospects
The new port, located 50 kilometers from Dakar, is designed to handle future expansions and improve connections with inland logistics. It will complement the existing Port of Dakar, which is nearing its capacity limits after significant investments and modernization efforts by DP World.
