What happens if you deliberately break your fast in Ramadan?

## Serious Implications of Breaking Fast

The UAE Council for Fatwa has emphasized that intentionally breaking a fast during Ramadan is a significant violation of Islamic principles. Such an act is considered a grave sin and requires sincere repentance.

## Required Actions for Repentance

Individuals who deliberately break their fast must express genuine remorse and resolve not to repeat the offense. Additionally, they are encouraged to increase their prayers and seek forgiveness.

## Compensation and Expiation

To atone for the broken fast, individuals are required to make up the missed day after Ramadan. Moreover, they must perform an expiation, which involves fasting for two consecutive months or feeding 60 needy individuals.

## Financial Expiation Details

The council has set the expiation value at Dh1,200, with each needy person receiving Dh20. This amount should be distributed through approved charitable organizations in the UAE to ensure it reaches those in need.
