What happens if you deliberately break your fast in Ramadan?

## Serious Implications of Breaking Fast

The UAE Fatwa Council has emphasized that intentionally breaking a fast during Ramadan is a significant violation under Islamic law. This act is considered a grave sin, requiring sincere repentance and specific compensatory actions.

## Required Actions for Repentance

Individuals who deliberately break their fast must express genuine remorse and resolve not to repeat the act. They are encouraged to increase their prayers and seek forgiveness.

## Compensation and Expiation

To atone for the broken fast, individuals must make up the missed day after Ramadan. Additionally, they must perform an expiation, which involves either fasting for two consecutive months or feeding 60 needy people. The council suggests that providing food is often the preferred option.

## Financial Expiation Details

The expiation cost is set at Dh1,200, with each needy person receiving Dh20. This amount should be distributed through approved charitable organizations in the UAE to ensure it reaches those in need.
