PhonePe moves closer to UAE launch after Central Bank approval

## PhonePe's Expansion Plans

Indian payment service provider PhonePe is on the verge of entering the UAE market following initial approval from the Central Bank of the UAE. This approval pertains to two key licenses: Retail Payment Services and Stored Value Facilities. This marks PhonePe's first regulatory step outside India.

## Next Steps for PhonePe

Before commencing operations, PhonePe must secure final regulatory approval. The company plans to collaborate with local banks, payment service providers, and technology vendors to integrate into the UAE's payment ecosystem. PhonePe aims to enhance the existing financial infrastructure by leveraging its technology platform, which currently supports over 700 million users and 50 million merchants in India.

## Existing Presence and Future Goals

PhonePe already facilitates payments for Indian travelers in the UAE through a partnership with NPCI International Payments Limited. The company is working towards a broader regulated presence in the UAE, aligning with the country's Financial Infrastructure Transformation program. Once fully approved, the UAE will become PhonePe's first international market.
