Carmaker Stellantis swings back into profit as sales climb

## Financial Performance

Stellantis, the global car manufacturer known for brands like Jeep and Fiat, reported a return to profitability in the first quarter of 2026. The company achieved a net profit of 377 million euros, reversing a loss of 387 million euros from the same period last year. Despite this positive turnaround, the profit figures fell short of analysts' expectations, leading to an initial drop in the company's stock value.

## Sales and Strategy

Sales increased by six percent to 38.1 billion euros, with notable growth in sales volumes across all regions, including North America. The company plans to unveil a new strategy on May 21, focusing on strengthening its position amid rising competition from Chinese automakers. Stellantis aims to concentrate resources on four key brands: Peugeot, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram.

## Partnerships and Challenges

Stellantis is collaborating with Chinese carmakers to utilize its European factories, aiming to produce electric vehicles eligible for subsidies. However, the company's performance in Europe remains challenging, with only a slight increase in revenues despite higher sales volumes. Analysts suggest that partnerships alone may not be sufficient to address these challenges.
